Chief Emotion Officer

Life feels like an illusion sometimes.
Make sure you create your own reality.

There are two parts to this: what has happened and how you choose to react to it.

I just got some bad news, a huge setback. I am choosing to turn this into a challenge and use what happened as motivation instead of a failure.

Same thing, different reaction. Control the desired outcome.

In today’s Storyletter:
Chief Emotions Officer

Fun Stuff – Weekend Vibes

Key learning

A smile is one of the most powerful tools your business isn’t using.

Every interaction you have with your customers is a chance to do better than before. When done right, you might learn that even when you fall short, your customers will tell you it’s ok and that you did your best.

A good friend of mine owns a chicken fast-food chain. The food is amazing, with a dozen types of gravy you can add. The chicken is always tender. But once in a while the 6-pack has a few small ones, so they add another piece. Nice, right?

Well, clients complain because they now feel every chicken was small. Over a cup of coffee I suggested adding a small note: Hey, we wanted to make sure you get at least the amount you deserve, so we added one more piece, just to be on the safe side. Have a great day.

Same thing, different emotion. Going from the minimum to over the top for the client. And you can do the same thing in your business.

Working with some clients on their pitch, I often keep calling them after we wrapped up and they paid. I care. I want them to succeed. They understand it was more than just the money. They usually refer people and mention how they felt I was part of their core team.

I think some businesses should have a new role: the CREO, chief real emotions officer. A person in charge of assigning emotions next to everything an organization does, internal and external.

Whether it’s HR or marketing, we all trade emotions. That’s the currency, yet we never use them, write them, or assign them next to our tasks. Don’t wait until the other side tells you how they feel about your offer or your actions. Make sure they feel what you want them to.

During my work for my upcoming book, The Business Catcher, I learned most businesses do not have an improvement funnel. They often work on getting more, not necessarily better.

I introduced this idea to a few of my bigger clients, and the results are staggering. More leads turn into clients. It’s easier to go from discovery to closing, as we have proven less resistance in each step. And this is just one part.

Review every interaction you have with leads and clients, from the awareness stage to retention, and make sure in each of them there is an opportunity to do better.

Review the process every quarter and keep improving.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Just reply to this mail.

Sometimes all it takes is a smile, a note, or an extra piece of chicken to turn good into unforgettable.

You can’t change what happened, only how you react to it

Building In Public

My sales funnel is empty, and that’s a good thing. Or is it?

For the first time since April 2024, my deal flow is empty, and it’s because every relevant lead has signed and onboarded. It has been a great few months.

But with the September motorcycle trip in South Africa coming up, I need to push harder than ever. Almost every client I currently work with has been a referral. While that’s great, it also means I haven’t been building a steady pipeline.

October, after the trip, will be my chance to push my lead-gen plan with a goal of signing a few more consulting clients. From then on, the focus will be balancing client work, writing, and creating videos (which has always been hard for me).

Here are 3 things that are helping me scale:

1. Only the right clients.
I’ve created three types of offers. If a lead doesn’t match, I can’t bring them on as clients. The main reason is simple: my process works, so why try changing it?

2. Better tools, better results.
Over the last two months, I’ve added tools, frameworks, and ways to help clients succeed faster and in a more organized way. Better metrics, tighter meetings. I’ll keep iterating and bringing more value. A good example is the discovery call phase, which is quickly becoming a tool of its own that I can teach with great success.

3. Content is still the hardest part.
This is the hardest part for me. Creating and uploading content consistently has been my Achilles heel since 2013. I’ll share more about this in future updates.

An empty funnel isn’t the end. It’s the signal to start building the next chapter.

Stop losing money

I’m going to say something unpopular.
Stop consuming content. Start implementing.

Instead of another speaker, another event, or another podcast, choose two things to improve every week.
It’s time we stop consuming and start winning.

Key learning

What got you to where you are today won’t get you to where you want to be tomorrow.

The world is changing faster than ever, but storytelling hasn’t changed. What has changed is how you approach it with your brand.

“Everything I’m not made me everything I am.”
I love this line. It’s a constant reminder of who we are and how well we know our strengths.
But moving forward is about improving. It’s about making things better.

You’ve done so many things right. That’s how you got here.
But if you think those same things will take you to the next level, you might be in for a surprise.

If we’re not growing, we’re stagnating. And stagnation is just a slower way of losing.

After working with clients all over the world, I’ve noticed one recurring truth:
Most brands do not have a growth plan when it comes to storytelling.

If you’re closing sales, are you closing enough?

Is your brand really strong enough?

Do you know where you can improve your revenue today?

Most companies just keep doing more of the same and hope for a different outcome.

It’s time to ask better questions.
It’s time to push your brand to achieve more.

The good news? It’s not complicated.
It just takes a bit of writing, clear goals, and the right structure.

If your business is missing any of these three things, call me:

  • A brand book
A visual guide is not your brand book. That’s just how your brand gets dressed. A real brand book defines who you are, how you speak, and what you believe in.
  • A written sales pitch
If your salespeople don’t have a clear three-minute company pitch for discovery calls, you’re leaving deals on the table.
  • A customer journey map
You need to map out every interaction a customer has with your business. What is the goal at each step? How should they feel? What are you saying?

Everything you’ve done has gotten you here.
Now let’s make sure you stay here tomorrow and grow.

If a client needs it, it’s service, not sales.

Building In Public

Stop doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome

My plan was simple.
I have ideas. I want to spread these ideas. I want to teach a million people.

So I wrote a book.
I started speaking all over the world.
The book hit #1 on Amazon and became a bestseller on day one.

But there’s one problem.
No, no. People love the book.

The problem is they’re not implementing the ideas.
And this isn’t just about my book.

We’ve become so obsessed with consuming that we know all the answers, but we’ve forgotten the legwork.

A friend called to ask for quick advice on their sales calls.
FIXED.
How? Using the method from the book.

Working with a great startup. Their sales calls were a mess.
We fixed them. How? Same method.

People, whether it’s my book, another talk, a video, or a podcast, please write down one thing and implement it.

As more people reach out after buying and reading the book, I’m reminded that my real goal is to teach, not just to sell.

Are you asking the right question?

In partnership with

The world we live in consists of the words we use to describe it. What a simple thought, right?

This week, I fell pretty badly while running (can’t believe it’s 2025 and we still use shoelaces). The most important thing is that I’m okay—bruised and bleeding, but nothing broken.

The second most important thing is how my brain reacted. It’s been almost a year since I started writing down my thoughts, and it’s clearly working. Choosing to look at things proactively and positively feels like my brain has been rewired.

Stuff will always happen; it’s how we react to it that matters. The same goes for your business. Is it tough? Let’s fix it together. Is it good? Let’s make it even better.

Could you do me a favor and forward this email to one person who has a business?

Thanks!

In today’s storyletter:

Change this question

The best way to close more deals is to control their journey and write the story for them.

You can make or break your sale with one question.

Your service is great, leads are landing in your funnel, and the automations work, but you still find yourself losing work over pricing.

Your current funnel might be working mechanically but not emotionally.

“How does that seem to you?”

That was the question a client used on their automation message after revealing the prices for the design packages.

The idea is good; show the price and ask a question to keep the conversation going.

But what about keeping the right conversation?

Or making sure you still control the narrative?

And better, what about speaking like your brand should and not like you hope to close the deal no matter what?

Now, this is where it gets tricky.

We often say things during the sales funnel but forget to ask these things

❓ “What is the goal we hope to achieve?”
❓ “What do we want our customers to feel?”

Simple, right?

NO.

We are wired to think about ourselves instead of them. We are in a transaction mode, thinking about closing, the money, getting the deal, and not losing.

Going back to our agency example, I asked the owner:
➡️️“The price you presented, do you think it’s a good price?”
➡️ “Great value, competitive, and high quality?”
➡️ “Do you believe in what you offer?”

F yeah!

So, we went with a new question after presenting the packages and prices.

“These are the prices for our basic packages; once you try our service, you will know you found the right fit. What package would you like to start with’?”

We went from an open-ended question to a multiple-option selection. Easier to choose from.

We went into positive action mode—we are starting.

We deflected from talking or thinking about pricing.

We helped our lead think about how this solution would feel afterward.

Don’t consider whether to take our service; consider how much of our service you would need.

The purpose of the question was to help them make a decision, not to think about pricing or any other reason to doubt their decision.

When asking a question, make sure you help your potential client make an easy decision. In this case they had 3 packages, and we call them starter packages. Why?

👉 3 options to choose from

👉 All of them are starter packages

👉 Choose according to your needs and not the price

👉 If it’s expensive, you can always choose the cheapest starter package

You see what we did there?

We have created a new journey for our new clients. And yes, the closing rate immediately improved. One small change has taken us to X3 on ROAS (return on investment).

If you are currently running ads, review your customer journey.

Make sure to ask the right questions only where necessary, but more than that, know what their response will be before you ask them.

If you have any questions, please reply to this email, and if the questions are good, I’ll reply with a post or maybe even a video.

Last day in Hoi An – Motivated to keep going

It’s a habit kind of thing

Doing something for a long time turns it into a habit—a streak. Sometimes, it’s hard to stop because it feels like falling off the wagon.
But what if it doesn’t serve you anymore? Then what?

I decided to take a week off YouTube to think about the next type of content. I believe I have some ideas, but let’s see how next week goes.

This week has been all about writing again—crazy amounts of writing. On Thursday alone, I wrote over 4,200 words in both Hebrew and English—about life, for the book, for my socials, and especially for my new Business Storyteller Guide post.

I thought it would take just a few days, but it’s been more than two weeks, and I just keep adding, writing, and changing. It’s been so exciting, figuring things out and incorporating these insights into my book draft.

This week also marks a great milestone: three major clients thrilled with their stories and pitches, taglines, or customer journey improvements. I’m excited to see how things go with my next few clients.

This newsletter keeps improving each week, offering actionable topics for founders and managers looking to scale. I’m starting to see the difference clearly between those who’ve unsubscribed and those who’ve recently joined.

Next week I’m traveling from Vietnam to Hong Kong for a few speaking engagements, followed by a quick weekend in Bangkok before heading to Israel. Maintaining momentum during this time will be a challenge.

What are some things you’ve stopped doing, and how did that make you feel?
How do you keep yourself motivated?
I’d love to hear from you!

Want More Leads? Here’s How I Get Leads with Only 10 Likes Per Post

I have a friend who gets over 1,500 likes on average per post on his LinkedIn. He cracked the system about two years ago and started to scale his followers. The problem? He got great generic comments but not the right clients. He now sells a course on how to scale your LinkedIn, while his main business still struggles to grow.
He always laughed at my posts getting 10-12 likes, but here’s the difference – I get a lead from the right likes, not just any likes.

Organic reach is declining on most social media platforms, leaving us with two options: go viral or pay up.

  • Going viral is tough for most people.
  • Paid ads work great, but only when your content is already solid.

So what’s the real option? Creating more content and hoping something sticks? Not really. About 1-1.5% of your followers will see your content. And yet, we keep trying to get as many followers as possible.
I believe it’s time to shift focus:
Have fewer but relevant followers. The ones who are truly your audience, not just your high school friends or random strangers with nothing in common.

We’re building a dirty sales funnel when we cast too wide a net. Instead, focus on quality over quantity.
Unless you’re planning to sell a course on how to grow your LinkedIn, and if you’re a founder or manager talking about your company’s product or service, here’s how to improve your top-of-funnel strategy:

  1. Reach out to 5-10 relevant people per day and add them to your network (aim for 3-4 meaningful DM conversations).
  2. Follow relevant people who might be your ideal clients. Leave thoughtful, value-adding comments on their posts.
  3. Share relevant content that’s specific to your audience: experience shares, problem-solving, or thought-provoking ideas.
  4. Engage with your commenters – keep the conversations going and let them know what you’re working on.
  5. Forget about the numbers. Focus on impact.

LinkedIn might be your best bet to go all in with a small, niche audience instead of chasing scale. It looks good to have a big following, but it’s killing the quality of your sales funnel.

5 tips to improve your LinkedIn experience

YouTube

With 20 new videos uploaded, the best lesson I’ve learned is to have one clear goal: upload a video on a set day, no matter what. Twice a week, whether the sound or video sucked, I kept going. Now it’s time to get intentional with scripting and maybe get a video editor involved.

One fail I’ll share – I tried pushing shorts on YouTube and while I got hundreds of subscribers, they didn’t move the needle. After some research, it turns out shorts might give numbers, but not real engagement. So, we stopped.

I have to reboot the series

In partnership with

Running between the rice fields in Hoi An, Vietnam, I had a revelation. After a month of working on everything except my next book, it hit me—I know what’s missing.

It’s time to hide and ride. With three weeks before my visit to Israel, I’ve checked into a beautiful hotel overlooking the rice fields, and my plan is to write. If I’m slow to reply, know that I’m working on something big.

There are many changes—personal and business, content and lifestyle. Enjoy this last Storyletter; it’s a personal journey. Next week will be a new version and i’m really excited about what’s to come (read more in the next few sections).

I’m growing, and I thank you for being here and for all the support I’ve received. It means the world.

In today’s storyletter:

THOUGHTS

Losing track of everything

I must admit something. After having some great conversations this past week with young founders, entrepreneurs who have built huge businesses, and even investors raising for their next fund, I felt torn. I can help them all, but what is the right path? Who can I help the most, and who would I like to work with? Between helping, changing the world, and making money, the range of possibilities is too broad.

I wanted to share my journey but couldn’t really find the balance between writing and bringing you value. I have hundreds of readers each week, but I’m not sure what they expect to get. I’m closing deals from my content, especially from LinkedIn, but is that the right way to move forward?

Struggling to write, I did what I do best—selling things. But this time, going back to selling my consulting time was an escape. It was a great way to make money and forget about the book for a while. And time—it has this tendency to run away, to move so fast.

I lost track of my purpose, of the reason I left home in the first place—to build something, to make an impact. So, here goes: part of sharing and building in public means I need to be honest, face the truth, and make changes.

My ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) will focus on brands looking to scale using storytelling techniques. This is very high-level, and I hope to share more in the coming weeks as I dive into the details.

The services I will offer in the next few months are focused on helping you pitch to raise money or close more leads. I’ll also offer services in creating a lasting brand character and marketing consulting. The masterminds will be for a closed group and will have an application process.

My content is aimed at serving young companies looking to improve their brand, sales, marketing, messaging, pitching, and customer journey. While it might be relevant to many others, I believe there are so many founders who need practical help—and just as my book was aimed at them, they will continue to be my focus.

This means my content online, from LinkedIn to this newsletter, will become more for them and less about me. While I am thankful for the hundreds of people following along, I think we need to help these young companies build the amazing solutions the world needs.

I will keep the Building in Public section with my personal opener, but the main piece each week will be dedicated to teaching something in the categories I mentioned above.

I’d love to talk to you, hear your thoughts, and share ideas.

Thank you for being part of this project. Storyletter is about to change a little bit, but become much more.

Building in public

Why sales is the most important skill to master – Click to watch

I’m going to keep doing this one thing

Building a habit is the hardest thing—or maintaining it is, not sure what they say—but one thing I know: building my business this year will come down to these few things: getting creative, doing less, and habit building.

After a rough patch over the last two weeks—losing my friend, flying to India, and losing about four days in travel—I’ve come back to Vietnam and moved from Da Nang to Hoi An, hoping to find some peace and focus to create more.

This will be my 19th storyletter, but also the last one in this format, as I’ve mentioned before. This week will also mark two months of getting back to YouTube. I’m enjoying most of it, but here are the things I’m going to focus on for the next two months:

  • I have written a list of what I think could be interesting ideas for the next six educational videos.
  • I need to improve my schedule—the plan is to have the videos ready one day before the upload time. So far, I’ve been struggling and uploading last-minute videos.
  • I want to improve the editing of at least two videos a month by filming a week before and sending them to a video editor. My 4K videos and audio have improved.
  • Fixing the thumbnails, descriptions, and titles is highly recommended for anyone with older videos—it’s been interesting to see what works.

On another note, we’ve been testing some ads for YouTube. I’m not very happy with the results, so I aim to focus on a new lead magnet and see if that gets us the right ICP to sign up for the newsletter. Getting people to purchase the book is still the hardest thing, as I can’t promote that page anywhere.

A Quick Note About Work

🚀 Mastermind Launch – Get ready, because this is going to blow your mind. The mastermind for entrepreneurs will launch at the end of March, and I’m also working on a new mastermind for C-Level executives at the request of some entrepreneurs who want their top-level managers to be more creative and reimagine their marketing and sales processes.

📅 Office Hours – Thank you to the one person who really reached out—this is what it’s all about: that one true fan. I’ll be shooting a new video this week about sales. Ask me anything; I’d love your help. It will make my day.

High school all over again?

In partnership with

One thing we know about our schedule is that we’ll sleep. More or less, but it has to happen. We can’t live without it. So, what if we treated vacation time the same way?

This week, I was invited to snowboard for a month in Japan. It’s been a dream of mine, on my bucket list for years, and I said, “No thanks.” Why? Because I’ve already planned my vacations for this year—surfing in Mexico, riding motorcycles in South Africa, and maybe a week in Mallorca.

Did you start your year by planning your vacation goals before anything else? If not, why not? It’s like air—you’ll need it. And if you did, where are you headed?

In today’s storyletter:

THOUGHTS

Anime style LinkedIn High school – I like it

Social media is high school all over again.
Yeah, I know. You know it too. But when it happens on LinkedIn? Well, it sucks.

When a good friend (shout-out Tanya) shared her feelings about this, I couldn’t help but get angry. Not because of high school—I had a great time—but because it got me thinking: why am I spending time on LinkedIn?

I don’t want to be popular. But—and here’s the big but—I think I need to be popular.

For years (I joined LinkedIn in 2006), like most of my social platforms, I’ve never exploded with thousands of likes or followers. But it was never about popularity. It was about sharing my thoughts. And it always worked.

I got what I wanted—venting, staying top of mind, and usually getting work or new clients.

But lately, I’ve been posting every day, and here’s why:

  • Consistency. We all talk about being consistent, but most of us don’t actually do it.
  • Intentional craft. I have to think about my posts. I enjoy taking raw ideas or thoughts and molding them into something I’m proud to share. It’s not about chasing likes; it’s about creating something meaningful.
  • Mindset shift. I’m working on changing my inner dialogue. Since leaving Israel a few months ago, I’ve committed to removing phrases like “I hate” or “I don’t do.” Instead, I tell myself: If you don’t like it, try it for two months. Only after that, you can reflect and decide.

It’s been the same with LinkedIn—and guess what? I’m enjoying the process.

Take the gym, for example. I hate going to the gym. But I just started my second month. This week, my monthly membership ran out, and I gave myself every excuse not to go. Until Thursday, when I woke up, grabbed my gym bag, and said, WTF? You said you’d go—so why the internal debate?

And I went. Gym, run, sauna. It felt great.

Sometimes, it’s easier to write a LinkedIn post than to tackle the hard stuff. But what’s your thing?

As for LinkedIn, algorithm or not, I’m letting the content decide—not the social dynamics. I’m happy for everyone killing it on social. But for me? I feel like I’m starting over. And you know what? Bring it on. Let’s have fun.

And if in two months I decide I’m done? That’s cool too.

Platforms that can save you time

In short – Show me the process
I decided to give Miro another try.
I know, you don’t have to agree, but hear me out, okay?

What does it do?
Miro helps you organize and arrange mind maps, create funnels, and design flowcharts.
Check it out here.

Why is it interesting?
As much as I love writing, we’re all visual creators at heart. Going back to Miro has helped me organize my marketing plan, rearrange ideas, add color labels, and even better—share my work with you in view mode. Instead of physical walls (something that keeps changing for me as a digital nomad), I’m now using digital boards.

Cool features
When working with clients on their signature talk or creating a detailed marketing plan, Miro makes collaboration seamless. We can use it online and live without needing to share screens on Zoom. The free version offers three boards, which is more than enough to get started. It’s especially handy for building customer journeys and tracking contributions from the whole team.

Lacking
While it’s easy to build on Miro, it can feel overwhelming if there’s too much information. For those just starting, I’d recommend taking it slow and limiting the number of collaborators until you’re comfortable.

Verdict
I’ve re-added Miro to my Chrome tab bar and plan to use it more often. I’m also considering building a few templates to save time later.

Building in public

It will work, I know it. But, will I?

You take the negative, face it, write it, stare it right smack in the…lens, and go. I’ve shared with you all my struggles with video, and this week I recorded the following:

  • A long video about building in public – This should be my first video in a long time. It was kind of hard. I managed to crop it, and while it has its flaws, I’m happy with the overall work. The next challenge will be editing and adding B-rolls.
  • Daily video journaling – I’ve recorded at least five minutes of myself talking about my day, every day. It’s been incredibly helpful in getting used to the camera. I make sure it takes effort—setting up the camera, fixing the audio mic. Even if it’s midnight, I’m committed.

I have to admit, while I’ve never really cared about what others think of me or my content, I’m seeing so many high-quality YouTube videos from people here—digital nomads and beyond. Just scrolling through them feels almost paralyzing. The gap between their production quality and mine is massive. It feels like I’m in 2013 while they’re in 2030. Getting over this has been really hard for me, but I’m trying.

On the bright side, I’ve been posting regularly on LinkedIn every day and genuinely enjoying the process. The habit of showing up is rewarding. Unfortunately, we couldn’t record another podcast this week, but that’s okay—next week.

As for work, it’s been fascinating to see that when you focus on helping others, you often get the help you need in return. Over the last two weeks, I’ve had 21 calls with founders in need, and it’s resulted in several inquiries about my work and whether I could offer my services in other countries.

But more than anything, I’ve realized what’s truly lacking: focus. I came to northern Thailand to find clarity, and while I’m creating, I’m also losing myself in my ideas and stories. Next week, part of my plan is to rewrite my 2025 goals, plan, locations, and budgets.

I hope to share this in a video to explain my thought process.

Overcoming fear, gaps, and everything holding us back starts with seeing it, saying it, writing it, and then changing it. Don’t do what you did before—do it better.

Keep replying, be epic, and tell me what you think. And as always, here’s my usual spreadsheet.

When tech is against you, it can feel like too much.

It was 11:45 PM when I clicked the connect button. The window popped up: Invalid link. A group of CEOs was waiting on the other side for my session, but Zoom wasn’t having it.

I felt clueless, helpless—restarting my laptop, frantically clearing the cache, deleting stuff. I had no idea what was wrong, but 35 minutes later, it finally worked.

We often forget how dependent we are on technology. The more they claim to simplify things, the harder it gets to know what’s going on under the hood. Simple problems become complex, and as we implement more AI and SaaS platforms in everything we do, it demands a new level of patience. I know I’m getting used to it.

THOUGHTS

My morning coffee routine still going strong – since 2017

Don’t become another 2nd week of January stat

The second week of January is considered the saddest week of the year, every year and for good reason. It’s the week where most people realize they will not be following through on their new year resolutions.

There are three things you do to address this phenomenon:

1. Skip resolutions, do nothing or do exactly what you always do and expect a different result.

2. Pick your goals and start today. Getting ahead of the problem means by the 31st you will be already a week into you new resolutions. Break the idea of having a specific date and decide if you succeed or not.

3. Don’t commit to anything except the tiniest thing you can. Want to lose weight? Drink one glass of water when you wake up. Want to write a book? Commit to having an open file where you can just dump ideas. Want more video creation? Book a zoom call with a friend, prepare 2-3 things you think you could teach them about your work. Record it.

We need to move, something will happen. How fast you move is completely up to you. reply back if you have any plans, things you are going to change, and who will hold you accountable.

Can’t wait to hear from you.

Platforms that can save you time

In short, nice to see you again. AI for short form vids

We all understand that video is crucial to any solid marketing plan. Good content, long-form videos, and podcasting are key, but we often struggle with coming up with ideas—or worse, turning great content into impactful shorts. Meet Opus

What does it do?
Take one long video and turn it into 10 viral clips. This platform transforms your long-form videos into shorts and publishes them across all social platforms. With one click, you can cut, transcribe, and organize your videos. You can even focus on specific keywords for maximum engagement.

Why is it interesting?
It simplifies your marketing game. Start by recording yourself on video—use tools like Zoom, Riverside, or OBS (it’s free and saves directly to your desktop). The Pro Plan (paid annually) gives you 3,600 credits/minutes of editing. Just upload your video, and the platform handles the rest.

Cool features

  • Post directly from the platform to your socials.
  • Start posting once or twice a week, building awareness for your brand across multiple platforms.

What’s missing?
I’m still exploring how to refine the editing process, especially when it comes to adding a good hook—crucial for grabbing attention and often needing to be tailored for each platform.

Verdict
A game-changer for my social campaigns. Slowly but surely, I’m getting better, and this tool makes the process so much easier.

If video is on your to-do list, this platform could be the tool you’ve been waiting for. Let me know if you’ve tried it or if you’re considering giving it a go!

Building in public

I’m trying my best to keep up with my brain

The past week has been really overwhelming when it comes to work and achieving my goals. I feel like I’m all over the place again, juggling content creation, clients, and trying to sort out the book structure.
I’ve spent roughly 70 hours at the coworking space, and while Saturday serves as a nice day off, I know I need to find my balance.

Content:
I’ve recorded four podcasts this week, which might sound great, but their true value depends on how much content I can actually create from the videos. My assumption is that every one-hour video can or should produce at least 4-5 solid short videos to edit and upload to the main social platforms. If I can find a good rhythm, I hope this will result in at least 50 videos.

Where I’m struggling is in editing, uploading, creating relevant graphics, and adding text to each post. January will be a testing month—figuring out how much time it takes to edit, design, schedule, and upload. I’ll also assess which platforms give me the best ROI. My plan is to figure out whether I enjoy the process enough to keep going and eventually hire a staff member to handle the logistics.

Book:
As for writing, I’ve had an interesting breakthrough that might require adding another chapter. That’s fine, but the most important revelation is incorporating negativity as a core element in the book. Yes, we need to discuss negative aspects to truly find the positive. Interesting, right?

Clients:
Although going back to consulting gigs hasn’t been my top priority, I’ve found myself enjoying the process—working with clients, having meaningful conversations, writing, and seeing results. One key project is struggling right now, and I believe the main issue is time allocation by the CEO. Note to self: when taking on new clients, ensure they commit the necessary time.

Write/think/work/fun balance:
I absolutely love what I do, so I wouldn’t call it a work-life balance issue. Still, I’ve started paying more attention to fun activities. By the time you read this, I’ll be on a motorcycle somewhere in northern Thailand, and I’m aiming for Vietnam in February.

Stop lying—or not

In partnership with

What an amazing week it’s been on the road. I uploaded a new podcast recording to my YouTube, failed miserably at a few things (but learned a lot), and had a major breakthrough with my book concept.

I’m starting to find more time to have fun in between working, writing, hitting the gym, and learning a ton of AI tools for my marketing work. This week, we got a group together and rode our scooters about an hour out of town to visit a coffee farm and enjoy some great coffee.

The social part is crucial. We sometimes forget how much we need downtime, friends, and laughter to keep going strong.

In today’s storyletter:

  • Stop lying to yourself
  • A rescue app to help you now
  • Building in public
  • From the webLet’s go!

THOUGHTS

What an epic day – at a coffee farm

Lying will get you nowhere

It’s been almost two years since I started traveling for my speaking gigs. It feels strange to think about how I spent months at a time on the road, delivering workshops based on a book that was still “upcoming.” Another workshop would spark an idea for the book, and I was constantly pushing like crazy to make it happen.

Often, I’d meet people who wouldn’t even ask—they’d just tell me, “You’re living the dream. Every man’s dream: traveling the world and getting paid to speak.” And sure, I enjoyed it—I still do—but they didn’t see the other side.

They didn’t see the hardships, the loneliness. The moments when I was packing up my own tech gear—cables and cameras—walking back in the middle of nowhere, only to return alone to a nice hotel room while everyone back home was celebrating something.

When I tried to share these thoughts, people didn’t want to hear it. To them, it sounded like whining, not winning.

Now, I meet more people—digital nomads or remote workers. Interestingly, most of them hate the term “nomad,” which implies having no home or perhaps still hoping to find one. Many chased freedom—financial, spiritual, physical—but found themselves tied to jobs they don’t like or struggling to get by, even in Southeast Asia. But hey, the Instagram pics look great.

A lot of them are freelancers, consultants, or people lying to themselves.

The truth? The grass is never greener. People need community, purpose, and grounding. People need something to believe in, something to aspire to. But more importantly, people need to be practical.

We need to plan for the future, know when it’s time to quit, and sometimes accept the reality that going home, getting a job, and working smart (and yes, maybe hard) is the right path. Remember, some of the wealthiest people in the world aren’t entrepreneurs—they’re the number 2s and 3s in companies.

Find a passion. Build a plan. Define your goals and timelines. But above all, stop lying to yourself.

Be honest. When someone asks how you’re doing, tell the truth. Seek help or companionship. Be accountable and responsible—not just for your current self, but for your future self. They deserve it.

Stop posting dumb stuff, or pretending your life is perfect. And please, no—you can’t be a life coach at 22. You haven’t lived long enough to have a life worth coaching about.

Live your life for yourself, not for them. Set a timeline, do your best, but know when reality is smacking you in the face—and it’s time to face the truth.

If we all stop lying, life will be a lot easier for everyone.

SOS app, from your phone, anywhere in the world

I often search the web, hoping to find cool apps and interesting people. It’s rare to discover both at the same time, but when I read about an app that can help you call for help from anywhere in the world, I had to check it out. That’s how I met Kozy, the incredible woman behind NauNauSOS (pronounced “now-now SOS”).

NauNauSOS is a personal safety app that sends alerts, along with your GPS location, to up to 5 pre-selected contacts during an emergency.

Curious about the story behind the app, I reached out to Kozy. We jumped on a quick video call, and I was hooked. Here’s a little bit about her, the app, and how you can download it.

My name is Kaosarat Fawehinmi, but people call me Kozy. I am Nigerian-American. I earned my Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Howard University and a Master’s in Technology Management from UMUC. Coming from a long line of successful entrepreneurs, I am the founder of NauNauSOS App—an app born out of the desperate necessity for safety and security in Nigeria.
Though the idea originated from the lack of security in Nigeria, the app is now available in over 130 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, and Nigeria. The idea behind NauNauSOS is to get help from the people you know and trust during an emergency.

Please feel free to download the app and share it with as many people as possible. Together, we can make the world a safer place.

Building in public

The Good, The Bad, The Scalable

The concept of building in public means I share it all, right?

The Good – I’ve been hard at work: creating content, videos, posts, shorts, and crafting my new marketing plan. The basic idea was: What if I could create hundreds of pieces of content? What would it take? So, I started defining my topics—what am I going to talk about?

The Bad – While focusing on my three top priorities of the day, I completely missed the mark by choosing three massive tasks that should have taken days (or more). Instead, I convinced myself they’d take just a few hours to complete. Unsurprisingly, I failed, didn’t have much fun, but I learned a lot.

The Ugly – Apparently, being in Southeast Asia, especially where I’m currently based, isn’t great for social exposure. I haven’t started using a VPN yet, and while I knew TikTok would punish me, it feels like every platform is out to get me.

Numbers – I’ve posted over 50 times this week, with some days seeing six LinkedIn posts. While engagement was up, I kept seeing the same people and posts. What did change was being top of mind—more people reached out this week, and several projects are signing in the next few days.

Book Update – I had a major breakthrough with the structure and concept of my methodology. Hours of videos, books, and podcasts all converged when I heard the same idea in three different places, and suddenly, it clicked. A new chapter was born. I also took a few hours to go through all my notes—from my phone, audio recordings, and a WhatsApp group I have with myself. Some real gold nuggets in there.

By the way, do you have a WhatsApp group with yourself? You should.

Don’t Insult Your AI

While OpenAI has changed our lives over the past two years, it hasn’t changed who we are as individuals. Now, in a new interview, Anthropic’s CEO—the company behind Claude—has revealed a key fact that will change the way you talk to your AI.

Even the difference between: “Do task X” and “Can you do task X?”
The model might respond in different ways. He goes on to say, “There are all sorts of subtle ways you can interact with the model that can give you a different result.”

During a Lex Fridman podcast (aired Nov 11), Dario Amodeo, the CEO of Anthropic, shared that you should be nice to your AI, or you might get a less communicative one. Yes, Claude and his peers might be sensitive to how you treat them.

Another interesting point he mentioned is that AI model creators may have made a mistake by allowing the AI to be too sensitive. It’s scary to think about what might happen in the future if AI remembers all those times you were rude and ends up resenting you for it.

A great way to solve this issue? Be polite and nice. Ask, instead of order. And between you and me, you should be doing this naturally with your AI, just like you would with any other member of your team.

The Next Chapter: Scaling Everything, Including Myself

Why You Need to Push Yourself: One Task at a Time— A Life Update

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. For those who haven’t caught up with my recent posts or newsletter: I’ve left home and embarked on a journey to scale everything—my next book, the current one, my business, workshops, and even my travels around the world.

But here’s the truth: the one thing I neglected was me.
I allowed myself to find excuses to write less, work less, and imagine less. That had to stop. For me, the way forward was to put my back against the wall and make myself uncomfortable.

This isn’t the first time I’ve done something like this—whether it was growing my hair out until I finished a book draft, keeping a beard, or posting a 1-minute video daily for a month. But this time, I’ve gone further. I’ve left everything behind.

One thing I kept pushing back was my videos and my social media calendar. Even after flying to the other side of the world, my first executive decision was, “I’m busy writing; I don’t have time for social or videos. I need to disappear to reinvent myself.”

About 10 days ago, I decided to stop making excuses. I started creating content at scale. But it’s not just about content—it’s about focus. I began sharing my top three daily priorities every day, holding myself accountable for what matters most.

Now, it’s time for the next step—and I need your help.

I’ve created a shared spreadsheet where you can see my main three priorities each day. I’ll post the good, the bad, and the needs:

  • If I couldn’t finish something, I’ll explain why.
  • If I need help, I’ll ask.

This is the next level of my journey as the Chief Reality Officer.
If it works, it’s on me. If it fails, it’s on me.

Let me know your thoughts.
Send me your top three tasks for tomorrow or share this with someone who might need a little extra accountability—or just enjoy following along.

A job worth doing

In partnership with

Stop watching dumb stuff and get to work.

I mean me, not you.

While working here in Chiang Mai, Thailand, I’ve been catching up on some YouTube videos, and one of them got me thinking. What started as “WTF is this guy talking about? That’s impossible!” slowly turned into, “Maybe… what if I try it?”

Curious? I’ll share more about that next week.

But for now, in this week’s storyletter, we’re diving into:

  • A man I met on a plane
  • A recording app I love
  • A new section: shoutouts to great ideas and people
  • Why 3 tasks a day can take you a long way

    Let’s go

THOUGHTS

Compounding

Simple work – Might be the best type of work

This guy worked the same “mundane” job for 43 years, and what he shared with me next was amazing.

While on a plane from Vietnam to Thailand, the man sitting next to me sparked a conversation. He seemed eager to ask questions—about who I am, where I’m from—and when I turned the questions back to him, he smiled and shared his story. He was incredibly humble.

Every year, he takes a couple of months off to travel the world. He owns three houses in Manchester, UK, all debt-free. When he’s home, he works just four hours a day, four times a week. And the rest of his time? He spends it with his grandkids and friends down at the local pub.

He’s 63 but looks younger than that—and happier than most. His secret? Keeping the same “mundane” job for 43 years: cleaning windows.

He told me he still remembers conversations with CEOs who envied his job. “No hassle, no long meetings, no worries,” they’d say. “Same job, day in, day out.”

He went on to explain that he focused on doing one thing exceptionally well—cleaning windows. He collected the money, hired more employees when needed, and kept cleaning those windows. Over time, more clients came his way.

“Most people don’t want to clean windows,” he said. “They’re willing to pay for it. But more than that, people used to look down on me for doing it. They felt sorry for me, cleaning their windows. Meanwhile, I was making £50–£200 an hour, saving money, and building my life to help my kids.”

His success came from being content with what he had, ignoring what others said, keeping his head down, and saving money. Not exactly what we see celebrated on social media today.

What we often see on social media is people going to the gym, putting in the reps, making more, and having more. But this man’s life is the real definition of compounding: same work, small savings, and over time, they compound into something extraordinary. How much of our daily or monthly work are we putting aside to save? How much of what we do is actually compounding? Or are we just going through the motions without saving or growing?

Think about your own “compound” effect:

  1. Are you saving money every month?
  2. Does your work attract bigger clients or a growing audience over time?
  3. Is the content you create improving with each effort?

Being intentional about the compounding effect has helped me say no to things that don’t serve that purpose. It’s a reminder to focus on the small, consistent actions that lead to meaningful, long-term results.

I think about him often since that flight a couple of weeks ago. Would you clean windows to retire early? Do you care what others think of you? Maybe if we rethink the way we look at things, some great opportunities lie ahead.

Food for thought—let me know what you think.

About AudioPen: A Tool You Can Use

Don’t like writing but always have a lot to say about everything?

A few years ago, I came across Louis launching his web app and decided to back him. I paid something like $30 and got my hands on a nice-looking app called AudioPen. It was a bit clunky when it came to understanding my strange accent, but it showed a lot of promise.

Since then, Louis, a solo entrepreneur and IndieHacker, has launched AudioPen on Android and iOS with great success. The app lets you dictate your thoughts, organize them, and transcribe them effortlessly. It supports countless languages, and my main use now is taking notes for my upcoming book and keeping everything under a dedicated tab.

Posts like this one? They now take me about 2 minutes to record, 5 minutes to edit, and another minute to proofread.

Clean isn’t really clean

This company is developing the next generation of biodegradable materials technology to help factories operate more efficiently, reduce pollution, and—most importantly—save over 150,000 lives each year.

This man and his idea will forever be part of my journey because he’s not only a great guy but also someone building something truly disruptive—and I’ve been privileged to play a tiny part in their success.

When I met Tzvika Furman, it was during Covid. I believe it might have been my first in-person workshop that year, and I was immediately struck by his idea and enthusiasm. We stayed in touch until mid-2022, when he called me.

I had just landed in Toronto to speak at Collision when Tzvika shared the news: he’d been accepted last minute to pitch their product in Singapore. Of course, we both knew the schedule would be tight, but we got to work.

It would take us about 8 hours to craft a strong pitch. Out of 50 companies, Tzvika delivered his 3-minute pitch and advanced to the final 10. When I work with clients, the trailer pitch is crucial—it’s not just about showcasing your company but ensuring your message is sharp enough to win competitions.

The next day, Tzvika delivered his final pitch and took first prize. While he had two additional minutes to present, we barely needed one.

Tzvika’s company, Kiinns, is about to close their funding round soon (and yes, they still have room if you want to invest). They’re set to revolutionize the way factories operate. Since its inception and our first collaboration in 2022, the company has achieved meteoric progress and is now in the process of negotiating its first international sales.

Here’s a short blurb about Kiinns:
Kiinns, a trailblazing Deeptech startup, is reshaping industrial production with a revolutionary solution that redefines production line cleaning. Kiinns eliminates the need for traditional, harmful, costly, and polluting cleaning processes and all of their risks in industrial (food and other) production lines.

Building in public

Let’s Be Honest

Being away from home—what some of you might call a “digital nomad” (I prefer “a man on a mission”)—while juggling client work, writing a book, and enjoying new places around the world—well, it ain’t easy to balance it all.

Last week, I had an idea: why not explore more content creation? (Spoiler: it’s hard!) Some of the key things on my task list became overwhelming. Between maintaining my clients, researching book concepts, and trying to create consistent content, it just felt like too much.

That’s why I think I need your help—to keep me accountable. I’m starting a new daily post where I share the top three things I need to create, write, or execute each day.

I believe building in public can take many forms. For me, being honest with myself—and with all of you—might be the key to achieving my 2025 goals. Because, let’s face it, doing it alone is so much harder.

For example, today’s goals were to write this newsletter, draft a new Medium blog post, and work on a script for YouTube—another tough task for me.

From now on, I’ll be posting regularly across several social platforms to share the journey, the ideas, and the behind-the-scenes process. I left to come back better, stronger, changed, and inspired.

But when you strip away the buzzwords, it all comes down to the daily grind. From nobody to somebody. Whatever it takes to build something I’m proud of.

Got questions? See you on the other side.

Share your experience—what you’ve done—not what you’ve heard another guru preach.
